#rp14: Third day impressions

After a rather mediocre day on Wednesday the third and last day was really good again. We started with an okay talk about creative commons but then stumbled into this guy explaining how to use everything of a pig. Meat, bones, nose, intestines… you name it, they use it. I was amazed by the craftsmanship of this guy when cutting up the whole pig.

#rp14: Impressions of Day 2

The second day was not so amazing, for some reason most of the talks were a bit bland and boring. My highlights though were an introduction to the simplicity of an Arduino (basically a chip, an oscillator, a power supply and a USB connector) and a talk by Raul Krauthausen, a physically disabled founder of a Verein to support handicapped people. He gave a great insight in the struggles of being in a wheelchair while maintaining mobility.

#rp14: First day impressions

I am really tired now. It was a very interesting day on a very relaxed conference. I heard a great talk, some good talks and learned how to build an universal phone charger. Up next are some pictures of the day.

#rp14: nearly there

A few months ago Doro asked if I wanted to get some early bird tickets for the re:publica conference in Berlin. Transforming into a blogging hipster I said yes.

And here we are now, the re:publica or #rp14 starts tomorrow and happens until Thursday. Today Doro and I got our badges and bracelets and each a jute-Tasche filled with flyers and some cookies and I can’t wait for the action to begin. I am actually excited about an event and I nearly forgot my cynicism because of it.

Erster Mai (des Jahres)

I never took part in the May Day shenanigans that happen every year in Kreuzberg. This year though my dear colleagues wanted to witness the great commercialisation of a traditionally left wing protest. They headed for Oranienplatz and the surrounding area, and I joined them after a very late breakfast at around 2 pm. This is our story.

Even though the mobile internet network crashed I managed to find the others and we then settled down in the amphitheatre in the Görlitzer Park.

Dumdidumdimsum

So Easter happened. Not so much in my place as I did not search any eggs, nor did I hide any. I did cook but instead of the traditional lamb I we cooked some good old German roast pork. The problem with a two person household that lives most of the time veggie: a kilo of meat is just too much. But fortunately there are ways to recycle all of the meat and tonight we had an amazing dim sum feast.

My oh Pie: My take at Heidi pie. And the classic pork filling

When I visited London a few years ago Doro and I shared a Heidi pie we bought from pie minister’s stand. It was delicious. Their Heidi pie combined the intense flavour of goat’s cheese with the richness of sweet potato and the freshness of herbs and spinach. A delight I missed ever since.

A look back.

Yesterday while I wrote about my blogging process in general I mentioned my previous web 2.0 stuff I did. And after getting a really nice compliment on my photos I went through my flickr stream again. My activity there went to a stop lately, but I realized that I do like many of the photos I considered average before.

So I decided to show some of my favourites here in chronological order and tell some things about them.

Vollposten

The Tegan-woman pulled one of these old tag thingies out one of her many robes and tagged me to answer a few questions. Evil as she is, she stated I would be to hipster to do it. Jokes are on her as I am a hipster AND will also do this. ha.

So let’s do this.

Streeeeetfooooood market

London has like three of them. At least. I heard the New York also features about one. And since a few months ago Berlin entered the illustrious round of major cities featuring a street food market. Tegan the vegan and Andy the dandy requested a visit of this infamous place and so I and Doro the Zorro (I’m trying to hard, really) fulfilled their wish like two little fairies.

We remembered the place to be overcrowded with tourists and hipsters and hipster tourists. We hoped the hype had faded off by now and were pleasantly surprised that when we arrived at about 6 pm the place still had place to walk AND stand. We kind of deliberately parted ways to find the bestest of the food. Doro and I first got a beef chili pie to fight the urgent hunger and be more relaxed while looking for the good stuff.
